Who we are
MOSS Lists is a free Android app made by Katie at Made by MOSS, based in the United Kingdom. Made by MOSS is responsible for the personal information it receives, such as support emails. You can contact us at hello@madebymoss.co.uk.
Your library
MOSS Lists stores your books, pages, checklists, notes, bullet lists, dates and deadlines in the app’s private storage on your device. This includes names, colours, ordering, formatting, completion and archive history, and preferences needed to remember how you use your library. The emoji picker also remembers recently used emoji locally.
The app uses this information to display and organise your library. There are no user accounts or sign-in, and no MOSS cloud sync or collaborative sharing service. Made by MOSS does not receive a copy of your library through normal app use.
Backups you choose to save
If you select “Back up lists”, the app creates a file containing your library and app preferences. Android’s file picker lets you choose where to save it. That can be a location on your device or a cloud storage provider available through the picker. A provider you choose handles the file under its own privacy terms; Made by MOSS does not receive it.
The app does not encrypt or password-protect exported backup files. Anyone who can access a file may be able to read its contents. Keep backups somewhere you trust. Deleting information inside MOSS Lists does not delete copies in an existing backup.
Android backup and device transfers
Android’s automatic backup and device-transfer features are separate from the app’s “Back up lists” option. MOSS Lists currently allows Android’s default backup behaviour, so Android may copy your app data to a backup service or another device, depending on your device, provider and settings. Data may be restored when you reinstall the app or set up a replacement device.
Made by MOSS does not operate or have access to these system backups. Use your Android and backup-provider settings to manage them. Google’s services are covered by Google’s privacy policy; other device or backup providers have their own policies.
Permissions and other services
The release app does not request internet access, location, contacts, camera, microphone, calendar, notification or broad file-storage permissions. Saving a backup uses Android’s file picker to grant access to the destination you select.
MOSS Lists contains no advertising, analytics, tracking, automatic crash-reporting or AI service. Its bundled libraries support the interface, emoji selection, local storage and opening links. Fonts and app artwork are bundled with the app.
If you open a website or email link, MOSS Lists opens your browser or email app. It does not automatically attach your library, screenshots or device logs. Android text-selection tools may also let you send selected text to another app when you choose that action. Those external apps and services handle information under their own terms.
Google Play and Android may independently process download, update, diagnostic or other platform information under their own policies. This is separate from an analytics or crash-reporting service built into MOSS Lists.
If you contact us
If you send a support request, bug report, feedback or privacy enquiry, we receive your email address and whatever name, message and attachments you choose to send. The bug-report button opens an editable email template; nothing is sent until you send it from your email app.
We use correspondence to reply, investigate problems and improve the app. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in supporting users and maintaining MOSS Lists. Our email provider processes messages to deliver and store our correspondence. We do not sell your personal information or use support messages for advertising.
We retain correspondence only for as long as needed to handle the enquiry and any necessary follow-up or legal obligations. You can ask us to delete it using the contact email above.
Deleting information
You can delete books, pages and list content in the app. Marking an item complete or moving it to an archive is not the same as deleting it. To remove the app’s local library and settings together, clear its storage in Android settings or uninstall it.
Exported files and system backups are separate copies. Manage or delete those through the location or provider where they are stored; an earlier backup may still contain content you deleted from the app. Made by MOSS has no library server or online account to delete, and cannot remotely erase data on your device or in your backups.
Your privacy rights
For personal information we hold, such as correspondence, you may ask for access, correction or deletion, or object to or request restriction of its use. Where applicable, you may also request data portability. Contact hello@madebymoss.co.uk to exercise your rights. You can complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
Children’s privacy
MOSS Lists is a general-purpose app and is not specifically directed at children. Its local storage and lack of account, advertising and analytics features apply to all users.
This website
Opening this policy or another Made by MOSS webpage is a separate website visit. The site is hosted on GitHub Pages and loads fonts from Google Fonts. Your browser sends ordinary connection information, such as your IP address, to those providers to load the page and fonts. See GitHub’s privacy statement and Google Fonts’ privacy information. Your library is not included in those requests.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as MOSS Lists develops. The latest version will remain on this page, with its update date shown above.
