Who we are
MOSS ESSA is an Android app made by Katie at Made by MOSS, based in the United Kingdom. Made by MOSS is responsible for the personal information it receives, such as support emails. You can contact us at hello@madebymoss.co.uk.
Your journal and profiles
MOSS ESSA stores the information you choose to add in the app’s private storage on your device. This can include your profile and profile photo; ESSA names, identity details, physical plush information, photos and photo-framing settings; diary dates, titles, writing, associated ESSAs, moods and Diary Stamps; and appearance and app preferences.
There are no user accounts, sign-in or MOSS cloud sync. Made by MOSS does not receive a copy of your profiles, journal entries or photos through normal app use. The app contains no advertising, MOSS-operated analytics or tracking.
Photos and camera
You can choose a photo using Android’s photo picker or take one using your camera app. MOSS ESSA keeps an imported copy in its private storage and stores your non-destructive framing choices separately. The original picture held by your camera or photo provider is not altered by MOSS ESSA.
Your selected camera, photo or file provider handles its own access and privacy settings. MOSS ESSA does not upload selected pictures to Made by MOSS and does not include remote photo processing, facial recognition or AI image analysis.
Android backup and device transfers
MOSS ESSA currently allows Android’s default backup and device-transfer behaviour. Depending on your device, provider and settings, Android may copy app data to a backup service or another device and may restore it when you reinstall the app or set up a replacement device.
Made by MOSS does not operate or have access to these system backups. Use your Android and backup-provider settings to manage them. Google’s services are covered by Google’s privacy policy; other device or backup providers have their own policies.
A user-controlled MOSS ESSA backup and restore feature is planned but is not included in version 1.0.0. This policy will be updated when that feature is introduced.
External links and email drafts
Privacy, website and email links open your browser or email app. Feedback and bug-report options create editable drafts addressed to Made by MOSS. Nothing is sent until you choose to send it from your email app.
MOSS ESSA does not automatically attach your profile, ESSA information, diary entries, photos, screenshots, database or logs to an email. External apps, Google Play and Android handle their own platform information under their own terms and privacy policies.
If you contact us
If you send a support request, bug report, feedback or privacy enquiry, we receive your email address and whatever name, message and attachments you choose to send.
We use correspondence to reply, investigate problems and improve the app. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in supporting users and maintaining MOSS ESSA. Our email provider processes messages to deliver and store our correspondence. We do not sell your personal information or use support messages for advertising.
We retain correspondence only for as long as needed to handle the enquiry and any necessary follow-up or legal obligations. You can ask us to delete it using the contact email above.
Deleting information
You can edit and delete ESSA profiles and diary entries in the app. To remove all locally stored MOSS ESSA information, imported photos and settings together, clear the app’s storage in Android settings or uninstall it. Pictures originally held by your camera or photo provider are separate from the copies managed by the app.
Android backups and device-transfer copies are separate: manage them through your device or backup provider. A previous system backup may contain information you later deleted from the app and may be restored by Android. Made by MOSS has no MOSS ESSA account or journal server to delete and cannot remotely erase your device or system backups.
Your privacy rights
For personal information we hold, such as correspondence, you may ask for access, correction or deletion, or object to or request restriction of its use. Where applicable, you may also request data portability. Contact hello@madebymoss.co.uk to exercise your rights. You can complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
Children’s privacy
MOSS ESSA is a general-purpose app and is not specifically directed at children. Profiles and journal content remain locally stored under the approach described above. A parent or guardian should help manage device, backup and email settings where appropriate.
This website
Opening this policy or another Made by MOSS webpage is a separate website visit. The site is hosted on GitHub Pages and loads fonts from Google Fonts. Your browser sends ordinary connection information, such as your IP address, to those providers to load the page and fonts. See GitHub’s privacy statement and Google Fonts’ privacy information. Your MOSS ESSA journal information is not included in those requests.

We may update this policy as MOSS ESSA develops. The latest version will remain on this page, with its update date shown above.
